In "The Crucible" playwright by Arthur Miller, John Proctor gives a speech after being wrongly accused of conspiring with the Devil. He expresses that the truth has no power against hysteria, and not only did he confront the court for the deaths of the innocent, he also feels responsible because he did not come forth sooner when Abigail began to lie.
