Answer:

Abolitionists and pro-slavery settlers fought about whether Kansas would be a free or slave state

Explanation:

In the wake of the tensions and conflict between the slave states and free states, Kansas was one of the states that had it the worst because of internal conflicts. The population in the state was divided, so Kansas was on neither side, while having two large fractions pushing in certain direction. This has resulted in multiple organized groups to cause terror and violence, with lot of people ending up dead, all in order to gain support or advantage to move in certain direction. Even though the officials tried to resolve things with voting, there was always problems with the voting, and lot of scandals about fraud with it, so the settlers were solving this issue on the terrain.

Kansas underwent two options in this incident to turn out to be a free country and join a union or Kansas persisted as a slave state. This incident happened because New England wanted to oppose slavery and the result of this case was that with an unfair election system, Kansas became a free nation.

EXPLANATION:

• History about ‘Bleeding Kansas’

Bleeding Kansas' in 1854 was a violent incident comprising Kansas settlers that were divided into two groups. The residents who supported anti-slavery and the residents who supported slavery. This event located in western Missouri for about four years between 1854 and 1858. It was then commonly known as ‘Bleeding Kansas.' This incident also resulted in a U.S. civil war. Moreover, this incident was also called a mini civil war.

• Cause of ‘Bleeding Kansas’

The demise of the Kansas-Nebraska Act 1854 comprising the withdrawal of the Missouri Compromise, and then 'Bleeding Kansas' happened. The concept of popular sovereignty focusing on democratic concepts was then substituted. It also meant that each country's populace must determine whether they wanted their state to become a slave-free state—so-called free state—or remained a slave state.

Kansas became a slave state because of unfair illegal voting by proslavery inhabitants that arrived in Kansas from the neighbor state, Missouri. This occurrence caused the region of Kansas to undergone a massive migration. Later on, this migration flourished in making Kansas a progressive agricultural state, particularly in wheat manufacturing because of slave labor. Then, Kansas joined the union some years after, to be specific on January 29, 1861, and became a free state.
