History

Answer:

The Mesoamerican region provided jade as well as obsidian and it's proximity to the ocean provided it seashells and sharkteeth, prized for it's use in jewelry. Furthermore, it's land was farmable and suitable for slash-and-burn agriculture where maize was grown. However, all these items were found in different areas of Mesoamerica. Thus, the people who inhabited these areas traded with other groups to get what they wanted and/or needed.
