It's not really a map - it's a political cartoon. I'm not sure EXACTLY it's meaning, but I'm pretty sure it's taking a jab at immigrants for coming to the US at the time, about how they'll change the way of life the whites had at the time (their fear at the time, btw).

The correct answer is A) prohibit slavery from all territory acquired from Mexico.

In 1846, Congressman David Wilmot proposed to prohibit slavery from all territory acquired from Mexico.

After the United States won the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), it gained large territories. The Wilmot Proviso tried to eliminate the use of slaves in those recently acquired lands. It was David Wilmot, a Congressman from the state of Pennsylvania, who proposed the the proviso.

David Wilmot was a representative from Pennsylvania in the United States Congress, who introduced this legislation to the House on August 8, 1846.  In the end, the proviso was not successful and this represented a major cause for the American Civil War.

lakkis [162]
So, the US started getting involved in the war because FDR thought Hitler was a danger to the US. But the US only actually entered the war because Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The United States declared war on Japan right after the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

The Europeans referred to China as the Far East.
kenny6666 [7]
This is an excellent question! It very clearly shows how (3) The point of view of people influences geographic labels.

There is no doubt about it that it makes no sense for the Chinese to name themselves the Far East, as it doesn't make sense for Europeans to name them the Middle kingdom. It only shows how our point of view relates to geographic labels as well.
