John Emerson of Missouri was the owner of the slave named Dred Scott.
Emerson made a number of moves in 1833 while serving in the American military. He transported Scott from the slave state of Missouri to the free state of Illinois and then into the Wisconsin Territory (a free territory). According to reports, Scott tried to pay Emerson's widow for his freedom, but she turned him down.
Harriet and Dred Scott filed separate cases for their freedom in Missouri state court in St. Louis in 1846 with the assistance of antislavery attorneys, claiming that living in a free state and a free territory had released them from the shackles of slavery.

WW2 also focused much more on mobility rather than sheer firepower, best described in the German offensive against France, and the German retreat against overwhelming soviet artillery (where the Germans evacuated the trenches meer hours before gigantic soviet barrages began, leaving the soviets with a poor result other than gaining a few km). Interestingly, the tactic favoured by Hitler in the beginning, mobility, he despised in the middle and end of the war, where he resorted to static defenses despite his generals recommendations.
