The answer is C: twisting the handlebars quickly and wiggling the front wheel.

1. Twisting the handlebars quickly: "There is a third movement of the handle bars --a quick twist in the direction the machine is leaning if about to fall."

2. Wiggling the front wheel: [prevent the fall by throwing the balance the other way] " a similar result is accomplished by wiggling the front wheel...a continuous wiggle --changing the balance...-- is necessary to keep it upright."

stiv31 [10]
In Marcus Zukak's novel The Book Thief, Rudy Steiner behaves in a dangerous fashion. Rudy openly admires the Olympic athlete Jessie Owens, an African-American, something which goes against the white supremacy of Nazi Germany, where he lives. He becomes active in the anti-Nazi resistance movement due to his disbelief in the Nazi's racist ideology. His athletic gifts and frequent winning of foot races attracts the attention of the Nazi leadership, especially given Rudy's outspoken doubt in the Nazi party's belief in white supremacy. Rudy's activity leads to his eventual death at the hand of the Nazis.

Read this paragraph.
Ad libitum [116K]

Answer:

a. Sentence 3

Explanation:

According to the given paragraph, Zoos are important because they protect animals and help keep them from going extinct.

There is currently ongoing work by the Wildlife Conservation Society to re-release the animals into their habitat.

There are also other programs which are designed to educate the public about the importance of the zoo and also the animals in them.

Therefore, the sentence that is part of the evidence in this paragraph is Sentence 3, because it gave evidence that the National Zoo in Washington D. C. has bred Sumatran tigers, boosting a population that was once only seven hundred in the wild.

Lorico [155]

What Aidan can do to improve his delivery of his extemporaneous speech on diversity in literature is the following:

- Since extemporaneous speeches do not allow for much preparation, Aidan will need to change his delivery in order to make it more interesting.

- He should try to speak to the audience, not at them - that is, he should make the speech more conversational. If the audience thinks he is talking directly to them, they will pay more attention.

- Including anecdotes or even some light jokes may also help bright up the general mood or make the experience more enjoyable.

 • Extemporaneous speeches are given in competitions where the speakers are evaluated for the quality of their delivery.
 • Speakers are given some time to prepare on a topic, usually about 30 minutes. Then, they must speak for about 7 minutes on that subject.
 • The style of the speech should reflect spontaneity, which should make it more conversational, less formal.
 • In Aidan's case, if the conversational style is not enough to keep the audience interested, perhaps he could try and change the mood a bit.
 • Most subjects allow for the use of personal anecdotes. If he can tell a funny or compelling story, he will most likely grab people's attention.
