According to the theory of continental drift, the original state of the continents was that they were all united into one, single, big land mass, known as a supercontinent.
While most often the supercontinent that is mentioned is Pangaea, from which falling apart we got the continents that we have nowadays, it is not actually accurate to pint out only Pangaea as a supercontinent, as there were multiple supercontinent prior to it.
Pangaea is the most recent supercontinent, and by far the most mentioned one, but initially there were numerous others. The first supercontinent is Vaalbara, and it is considered as the first large landmass, and also as the one from which the continental drift started. The supercontinent broke down, and than another formed, and that one broke down, and again another formed, and the process has continued, and still is. Other supercontinents that have existed are Ur, Kenorland, Arctica, Atlantica, Nuna, Rodinia, Pannotia, Gondwana, Laurasia...
