Art [367]

Answer:

Question 1.

Question 2.

Question 3.

Question 4.

Question 5.

Question 6.

Explanation:

1. Whenever Velazquez painted nature, he did it with lots of detail.

Diego Velazquez was a Spanish baroque artist. The baroque art cherishes the detail. Exaggerations, details and ornaments were numerous in order to make an impression on the spectator. Baroque was also rich in contrasts.

2. His work, The Old Woman Frying Eggs shows a scene of everyday life.

As opposed to what the baroque art generally represented, some of Velazquez's paintings depicted scenes of ordinary people. They contrasted with the splendor and the noble character of the catholic baroque art, showing naturalist sense for accuracy and detail.

3. We can tell that the woman is poor by her clothes and the food she prepares.

If we remember the glorious dresses from the Las Meninas, we can easily tell that the old woman is far from noble. Her head is covered with a headscarf and she's preparing eggs, a simple and scarce breakfast.

4. In The Triumph of Bacchus, the countrymen rest after a difficult day of working in the field.

This art piece shows Bacchus, Roman God of fertility and wine, entertaining the drunken countrymen. The poor have always drowned their sorrow and their worries in alcohol. This is a scene of everyday life with mythological elements.

5. The artist incorporated his own image in the canvas of Las Meninas.

Las Meninas is Velazquez's 1656. master piece. It is a rather big canvas, exposed in the Museo del Prado and whose complex composition doesn't cease to impress. The artist even included the portrait of himself in the middle of the creation process. Borders between reality and illusion intertwine and disappear.

6. Whenever Velazquez illustrated the Palace life, he always included servants and domestics that took care of the nobles.

Velazquez didn't leave out the domestics when depicting Palace life. This element indicates his realist and naturalist tendencies - he refuses to represent only luxury and grandeur, ignoring the constant presence of ordinary people.
