Answer:

The Europeans were going to go to India in search of the princes, kings and queens to convert them to Christianity like how the paragraph says. So they went west, but they little knew there was a whole continent in between Europe and Asia. They came to North America, and they thought it was India. They even saw Native Americans who looked like ''Indians'' to them.
