Answer: When you think of a satellite, you might think about the structure that beams down signals from space to help you get all the TV channels you want. Satellites are launched into orbit over Earth, and held in place by the earth's gravity. So, how can a nation be like a satellite? When we talk about a satellite nation, we are talking about a nation that is aligned with and under the influence of another nation. It is caught in the orbit of the other country, just like a satellite is caught in the orbit of a planet.

The term satellite nation was first used to describe certain nations in the Cold War. These were nations that were aligned with, but also under the influence and pressure of, the Soviet Union. The satellite nations of the Cold War were Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and East Germany. Countries in the West (like the U.S.) began using the term 'satellite nation' to describe these countries, because they were held in the orbit by the gravitational pull of the Soviet Union.

How did the development of agriculture effect culture?
Sergio039 [100]
The development of agriculture had an incredibly powerful effect on culture, since this led to a surplus of food (something that did not happen in hunting and gathering societies), which meant that people who were not farmers could focus on new trades and skills that led to a diverse and thriving society.

Why is effective campaigning important during elections?
babymother [125]
Effective campaigning is generally effective because the campaigner persuades a population to support him. During an election, the one objective a candidate has is to win; the candidate wins an election by gaining the most support from the population. So effective campaigning is important because it gives the candidate with the campaign a greater chance of winning the election.

This is assuming the targeted population votes for a candidate in an election, not all types of government hold elections that would require a campaign.

For the United States, how was "New Imperialism" different from Manifest Destiny?
vodka [1.7K]

Answer:

The overseas imperialism was different first of all because the fighting was done in the sea, rather than on the land. It was also different because during Manifest Destiny Americans were not fighting to help save people, since the land they obtained was mainly uninhabited, except by Native Americans.
