In a well-constructed paragraph, discuss the moral dilemma in "The Book of Martha.” What does it reveal about Martha’s behavior
andrey2020 [161]

Answer:

In "The Book of Martha,” Martha is faced with a moral dilemma about how to improve humanity. She can make any change she desires. Martha tells God, "I was born poor, black, and female to a fourteen-year-old mother who could barely read. We were homeless half the time while I was growing up.” Martha grew up to become a successful writer. As a result of this, Martha understands that people need to have a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in order to live a good life. Thus, her response to the dilemma is to provide people with a sense of personal satisfaction in their dreams in the hopes that this promote peace and well-being. One theme of the story is that  imagination has an impact on reality. Martha believes that people’s dreams transform them. As the story progresses, and Martha gains confidence in her choice, Martha’s image of God changes, and he begins to look and sound more like her.

Why does the quote indicate about john proctors character
LiRa [457]

Answer:

  • This is a great line and sequence from this play. If you haven't already seen the film version with Daniel Day-Lewis, please do so. Day-Lewis delivers the above line in such a way that it is the part that I remember the most.
  • At this point in the play, John Proctor has already admitted to the court that he committed adultery with Abigail Williams. In essence, he has intentionally hurt his reputation in the community. Many people looked up to Proctor as a good, strong, and moral man, but the adultery will taint that image.
  • The court asks John to sign his name and admit to witchcraft, and John refuses to let the court keep the paper that he signed. John is okay with his reputation being hurt because he was trying to save others, but he is not okay with his name (and his family's name) being tainted by...

1. King lists a number of historical examples of civil disobedience. For each example there were hundreds, thousands, even milli
umka2103 [35]

Answer:

Citizens choose to be silent about a law they may find unjust because they are afraid of what could happen to them if they disobey the just and unjust laws.

According to King, unjust laws are not moral with the current law, as an unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. He also says that the unjust law is not a law at all and that the unjust segregation law distorts the soul and damages the personality. It gives the segregator a false sense of superiority and the segregated a false sense of inferiority.

King also states that he will invite all the citizens to disobey the segregation laws because they are morally wrong.
