The first organisms believed to have performed photosynthesis are the cyanobacteria. They have been revolutionary with their ''invention'' of how to produce their own food by using the sunlight, but also crucial for the development of the life on the planet in the future. The oxygen that the cyanobacteria released as a waste, ended up into the oceans and into the atmosphere, gradually changing the composition of them both, which set the proper conditions for the living organisms to flourish later in the geologic time.
