Answer:

The relatively simple cult of tribal ancestors was significantly modified by Confucianism. Confucius gave this cult the deepest meaning of the cell from which the entire social system grows, permeated with devotion to the sovereign, a sense of social duty, and commitment to a strict order. For this, the cult of the ancestors was turned into the most important duty of everyone, at the level of a strict ceremony, regulated to the smallest detail.

Confucius’s doctrine of the principle of respect for parents, which is usual for all religious cultures, has that specifically Chinese peculiarity that reverence for parents was elevated to an extraordinary, unusually high position that overshadowed all other religious and social relations. According to Confucius, for a man there is nothing more important than xiao.

The cult of ancestors at the level of Confucian xiao relied, like any other vital activity of the Chinese, on respectful awe before the divine Sky.

Some researchers, speaking about the development of the economies of states belonging to the East Asian region, came to the conclusion that an unprecedented rise basically has a common cultural base - the “new religious Confucianism”
