Read the excerpt from "The Gift of the Magi."

Jim stopped inside the door, as immovable as a setter at the scent of quail. His eyes were fixed upon Della, and there was an expression in them that she could not read, and it terrified her. It was not anger, nor surprise, nor disapproval, nor horror, nor any of the sentiments that she had been prepared for. He simply stared at her fixedly with that peculiar expression on his face.

In this excerpt, Jim’s character is developed

indirectly, through his lack of action.

directly, through his physical appearance.

directly, through his personality that is concerned with change.

indirectly, through his lack of feelings for Della.

Answer:

indirectly, through his lack of action.

Explanation:

Character development refer to the different changes a character undergoes during the development of the plot as a result of their actions, inaction and experiences.

From the excerpt, Jim's character developed indirectly, through his lack of action.

<u>"</u><u>Jim stopped inside the door, as immovable as a setter at the scent of quail."</u> This shows clearly that Jim was unable to act or move because of the look in the eyes of Della which he could not quite place.

Why do you think some people feel the need to make more and more money?
Arada [10]

its because they want more and more, their never happy of what they have if they have 2 cars they'll want 5 if they have 5 cars they'll want 10. its in the mind of people that money is everything the price of happiness. celebrity's have so much money they could afford their own island but they end up being sad or depressed and kill themselves. for what? cuz they weren't happy and despite all the money they had. people want to make more money as to live a luxurious life to fulfill their goals in life (which is nothing wrong with that) cuz their not happy of what they have, im not saying its bad to make more money of course its ok but some people go to far with it even if they have everything they still want more. its like a saying stuck in their mind "the more money i have ; the better my life will be".

Cry, The Beloved country. <br><br> Can somebody help me with this question please!!!!!!
Anon25 [30]

Answer with Explanation:

The author is trying to tell the readers that the High Place, which is the dwelling place of the white farmer, <em>James Esquire</em>, has a big gap with the poor, agricultural village of Ndotsheni.

The fields in the High Place are well-ploughed while those in Ndotsheni are over-grazed and signals poverty. So, this shows that people in the High Place have more power because they are more educated when it comes to the farming techniques. Thus, they can maintain such beautiful farms. On the contrary, those in Ndotsheni have lower power because people are uneducated. So, this means that they are not that literate about farming techniques.

<u>This also shows how unequal the top valley is from its lower portions, although they are all just connected to each other.</u>
