A source of laser light sends rays AB and AC toward two opposite walls of a hall. The light rays strike the walls at points B an

d C, as shown below: A source of laser light is at point A on the ground between two parallel walls. The walls are perpendicular to the ground. AB is a ray of light which strikes the wall on the left at point B. The length of AB is 40m. AC is a ray of light which strikes the wall on the right at point C which is 80 m above the ground. The ray AB makes an angle of 60 degrees with the ground. The ray AC makes an angle of 45 degrees with the ground. What is the distance between the walls? 80 m 180 m 90 m 100 m

Let x be the distance from the left wall to the laser source and y the distance form the right wall to the laser source.

We can use the cosine trigonometric function in the smaller triangle to relate the adjacent side of the angle and the hypotenuse; then we can solve for x:
cos( \alpha )= \frac{adjacent.side}{hypotenuse}
cos(60)= \frac{x}{40}
x=40cos(60)
x=20m

We can use the tangent trigonometric function in the larger triangle to relate the opposite side of the angle and its adjacent side; then we can solve for y:
tan( \alpha )= \frac{opposite.side}{adjacent.side}
tan(45)= \frac{80}{y}
y= \frac{80}{tan(45)}
y=80m

Now we can add both distances:
20m+80m=100m

We can conclude that <span>the distance between the walls is 100 m.</span>

Please help! This is for my cousin and I really can't help him. Thanks!
andre [41]
Okay so all you have to do is find the probability that the top will land on the left side of the tape. the probilty is 28/40. now all you have to do is turn it into a percent. to turn a fraction into a percent you have to divide the numarater by the dimamanter and then multiply it by 100
so you would get 70%

How do we create a table of values to help us graph linear equations?
VashaNatasha [74]

Let's say for example you wanted to graph the linear equation y = 2x+5

At minimum, we'll need 2 points to form this line.

To get any point of the form (x,y), we plug in a number for x to find a corresponding number for y.

For example, replace x with 0 to find that...

y = 2x+5\\\\y = 2(0)+5\\\\y = 0+5\\\\y = 5\\\\

Therefore, x = 0 leads to y = 5. So the point (0,5) is on the line.

Then we repeat this process for other x values. Let's try x = 1

y = 2x+5\\\\y = 2(1)+5\\\\y = 2+5\\\\y = 7\\\\

Telling us that (1,7) is also on this line. We have enough to graph this equation. Plot the two points (0,5) and (1,7). Then draw a straight line through them. Extend this line as far as you can to the left and right. The graph is shown below.

We can keep going to get other points like (2,9) and (3,11) and (4,13) and so on. A table is a way to keep track of the xy values.

\begin{array}{|c|c|}\cline{1-2}\text{x} & \text{y}\\ \cline{1-2}0 & 5\\ \cline{1-2}1 & 7\\ \cline{1-2}2 & 9\\ \cline{1-2}3 & 11\\ \cline{1-2}4 & 13\\ \cline{1-2}\end{array}

Each time x goes up by 1, y goes up by 2. This directly ties to the slope of 2/1 = 2.
