“I felt odd and had the smell of bacon running through my nose when suddenly I had the instinct to wake up and follow the smell. When I sprung to my feet I realized I had paws instead of hands and thought I was dreaming until I discovered that I had turned into a dog! It freaked me out at first but then I remembered how easy dogs have it. It took me awhile to figure out how to walk with four legs but then I was quickly trotting towards the smell of bacon and found myself in my own kitchen watching my (mom, dad, roommate etc.) cooking bacon. Everything was great until they yelled “Who are you? I don’t have a dog, get out!” I was shoed outside and confused as ever. I sat outside and pondered what my next move would be and how I had turned into a dog and how do I turn back into myself…. You can add stuff or change things but I hope this helps!

HELP
N76 [4]

Answer:

C. New environments can change one's sense of self-worth.

Explanation:

Charles Dickens' <em>Great Expectations</em> tells the story of a young orphan named Pip and his rise to being a gentleman. But more importantly, his childhood days, the education and knowledge that he learned along the way during his various encounters with different sorts of people and the theme of belonging, loss of innocence, and society are all dealt with in the story.

In the given excerpt from Chapter VIII of the text, the scene shows Pip's first encounter with Miss Havisham and also Estella. Pip admits he had never questioned his childhood until that day when after meeting with Miss Havisham, was led to the courtyard under the bright sunlight. As though everything hidden in the dark is illuminated by the sun, Pip also feels ashamed of his appearance and even regrets not being taught properly by Joe. He admits his shame in realizing his <em>"coarse hands and my common boots"</em> were seen by Miss Havisham, admits that<em> "they had never troubled me before, but they troubled me now as vulgar appendages"</em>. He even expressed his<em> "wish [that] Joe had been rather more genteely brought up, and then I should have been so too"</em>, which shows <u>his feeling of inferiority in the face of Miss Havisham,</u> or in general, in front of someone richer or 'classier' than them.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP - MUCH LOVE
Aloiza [94]

Answer: Rhetorical Devices:

Rhetorical question in the first four verses of the first stanza:  O! say can you see. . . o'er the ramparts we watched were so galantly streaming?, Another rhetorical question question at the end of the stanza: O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

The second and third stanzas lso begin with rhetorical querstions about What is that which the breeze. . .half discloses?

Where is that band. . . that so vauntingly swore. . .shall leave us no more?

All of this sets up a theme: Will the fort hold up? Will the troops inside be able to defend and hold the fort that protects the city-- and symbolically, the country. As long as the flag is flyng, the American troops are holding the fort and have not surrendered.

In those verses there is also a good example of parallel structure (repetition of grammatical pattern): land of the free, home of the brave.

Alliteration: <u>Br</u>oad <u>st</u>ripes, <u>Br</u>ight <u>st</u>ars. <u>R</u>ockets <u>R</u>ed gla<u>re</u>

<u>gl</u>oom of the <u>gr</u>ave (Stanza 3 v. 6)

"<u>P</u>raise the <u>P</u>ower" < also figurative language to say "Thank God"

Figurative language: "twilight's last gleaming" to describe dusk.

"star-spangled banner" to describe the flag.

"mists of the deep: to describe fog (stanza 2 v1)

"cause that is just" describes the idea of defending freedom and democracy

"land of the free and the home of the brave" to describe the young United States of America. This is also Repetition: it is the ending of each of the four stanzas, at first as a question, then as an answer and an affirmation that the battle has been won and the flag will continue to fly over the new nation.

"Heaven-rescued land" also refers to the USA.

The third stanza ends with the turning point: The star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave. . )

Explanation: Francis Scott Key is describing the battle in figurative language, to express the emotions of wonder and doubt, then triumph and hope that the nation will endure. The fluttering of the flag is a symbol for the challenges of the battle and the challenges facing the nation.

Iteru [2.4K]

Dear Mrs/Mr. (insert name),

How are you today?

I am so honored that you have my best interests at heart and that you chose to recommend this wonderful boarding school for me, however I prefer the school I am currently going to as of right now and here's why.

First off, the teachers here are really great, and I feel like I am in a safe environment. I can ask my teachers for help on concepts i don't quite understand and expect great answers. In, addition, this school is close to home, which means that, god forbid, something happened to me or a close relative, I can be picked up within moments notice.  My parents wouldn't have to go through so much trouble to get me out of school, for the simpler matters either, like a doctor's appointment. And lastly, I can go to school with people that I know and am comfortable with. Changing schools halfway through high school can be tough for kids my age, who have grown up with the same people around them.

So I hope I have convinced you of the benefits of going to the school I already go to and I hope you understand that I am very grateful to have a person like you who has my best interests at heart.

Sincerely,
