Hamlet was being attacked from multiple directions. the knife and the wine. Unfortunately, Gertrude, Hamlets mother, drinks from the cup, unbeknownst of the poison, and dies, when Hamlet finds out, he finally STABS Claudius. Hamlet, Claudius and Laertes all die in the final battle--classic Shakespeare :)
