We know an hour is 60 minutes so we have to divide the number of minutes he is talking from the hour. 60 divided by 12 is 5 so if he is running a mile every 12 minutes then he is running 5mph
What would happen to writing if paragraphs didn't exist is that when the reader reads the writing, he/she might skip a sentence or even get confused. And then you might not understand it yourself. It can affect the reader by not understanding what is going on in the writing if it's a story.
