Yukon gold rush in Canada, new railways all contributed to the increase of immigration to Canada and northern territories.
It is false that the primary way children learn a language is through books and school work. The best way for anyone, especially children, is to be exposed to the target language, they need to hear it as much as possible, because that way it will be easier for them to pick it up.
