Everything was peaceful and calm to begin with, but that peace was about to be shattered.
My whole life, all I've ever known was peace. I always had enough to eat and drink, and I had everything I needed. And as far as I knew, everyone else I knew had that too.
The night that everything changed, I was sitting with my parents in my livingroom. They were watching the news, I was on my phone, and my baby brother was sitting in front of the couch, playing with his trucks. Then the news went nuts. The anchor had been doing a story about factory workers going on strike. Another anchor ran in, and started yelling. Apparently, with no one to work the factory, the pressure levels had risen, and finally, it had exploded.
That wouldn't have been so bad, except for the fact that they were working with some pretty dangerous chemicals. Something highly contagious went airborne, and turned anyone close into... well, I don't want to say zombies, but that's pretty much what they were. Except they weren't shambling and slow. Whatever infected them gave them strength and speed. The world went crazy overnight.
That was 4 years ago. Now I just try to survive, and keep my little brother safe. It was rough going at first, because my parents weren't there anymore (supply run gone wrong). But soon, I'll be safe. There's a camp of survivors we've been slowly making our way to. Soon, my brother and I will be safe. One more day's walk, and life will be back to semi-normal again.
