Tolstoy is known for the short story "How Much Land Does a Man Need?" because it is a satire of a peasant's life. It was published in the 1860s. In Russian history, this was the time the country allowed peasant's to buy and use land independently. The country prospered agriculturally and implies socially that peasant's were slowly being respected. But the Tolstoy's story focuses on greed and the importance of remaining humble.
