St. Teresa in Ecstasy is a sculpture by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680). Bernini is one of the greatest baroque sculptors of the 17th century, representing the mystical experience of Saint Teresa of Avila "pierced with an arrow of divine love for an angel, made for the chapel of Cardinal Federico Cornaro".
Bernini served Vatican City for a long time, creating sculptures made to order. Not only in this but also in other sculptures, Bernini followed the determinations of the Roman Catholic Church, which said that religious art should be intelligible and realistic, and above all serve as an emotional stimulus to religiosity.
Many protestants did not believe in icons or ornate churches, that’s why many protestant churches are arid and plain. medieval artisans portrayed god and biblical scenes but many thought that art was only there to serve the holy god
