Answer:

infinitive phrase - an infinitive with modifiers, a complement, or a subject, acting together as a single part of speech

gerund phrase - a gerund accompanied by modifiers or complements

infinitive - a form of a verb that generally appears with the word to and acts as a noun, adjective, or adverb

participle - a form of a verb that acts as an adjective

gerund - a form of a verb that acts as a noun

participial phrase - a participle that is modified by an adverb or adverb phrase or has a complement

Explanation:

An infinitive phrase starts with an infinitive - "to" and the simple form of a verb. It also includes objects and or modifiers.

A gerund phrase includes a gerund plus any complements or modifiers, and it functions as a noun.

The infinitive is the basic form of a verb, that is, a form with no inflections - no changes due to a relationship with a subject. It usually comes preceded by "to".

A participle is a word formed from a verb. The present participle is formed by adding -ing to the verb stem, while the past participle of regular verbs is formed by the addition of -d, -ed, or -ied.

A gerund is a noun created by adding -ing to a verb root.

A participial phrase is constituted of a participle and its complements or modifiers. It functions as an adjective.

Click to read the passage from "The Metamorphosis," by Franz Kafka. Then answer the question.
coldgirl [10]

In the first paragraph of The Metamorphosis, Kafka tells his reader that his main character—Gregor Samsa—has become a giant verminous bug. At the begining Gregor thinks is just a dream but then he realizes that it is real.

In the firts chapter Gregor wakes up to find himself transformed into a giant insect. After examining his new physiology, complete with numerous thin legs, a hard back, and a segmented belly, he wonders only momentarily what has happened to him. His attention is quickly distracted as he observes his room, noting its small size and seeing on the wall a picture of a woman he had clipped out of a magazine and framed. Wanting to go back to sleep, Gregor realizes that he cannot turn over on his side, which is the only position he can sleep in. (Taken for gradesaver.com)

As we can see in the text the details about how Gregor has changed physically is the part that helps us the most to understand the what he is feeling and seeing is a reality. The word "verminous" and the size of the room can be used as metaphor about sadness and sickness but the physical description and its feeling are way too real. The answer is C.The details of the character's many legs
