This radical change took place with 1-2 generations which had very bad consequences on mental health of European population.

These two changes took place very quickly. Rural people wanted to adopt bourgeoise lifestyle and earn more money so they moved to cities and towns and worked in factories. It had a very devastating influence on them and their children.  Freud describes that succintly in "Unbehagen in der Kultur" (1930). Probably the worst (the fastest) it was in Germany.
