Answer:

B. The world focuses too much on outward appearances; one shouldn't try to live up to others' expectations.

Explanation:

T. S. Eliot's poem "The Love Songs of J. Alfred Prufrock" deals with the sadness and aloofness of a person amidst the 'busy' lifestyle of the new technological age. This dramatic monologue also involves the speaker Prufrock's inner thoughts at trying to reveal/ declare his inner feelings to his lady love but is unable to do so for his feeling of inferiority overtakes him.

The given lines show how men judge one another despite the achievements that the man may have. They will always find fault with one thing or another, like when Prufrock states <em>"My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,  My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin"</em> is overshadowed by their observation of how thin his arms and legs are. This shows how <u>the world chose to focus on outward appearances</u>, which the speaker tries to play down and rather focus on not what they say, or try to live up to that expectation. Rather, <u>one must live as one sees fit, ignoring others' expectations of what we should be. </u>

The letters from Mesopotamia in this chapter were about issues similar to those modern people face today.
Pachacha [2.7K]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt were two of the first known civilizations. While they were able to maintain their unique identities, they played an important role in the development of several important technologies.

A pen, a wheel, a calendar, and beer were brought. In Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt, between 3500 and 3000 BCE, each developed as a renowned civilization. Agriculture was the first time in history that people stopped seeking wild food supplies and settled down to farm instead.

A link between these civilizations was the fact that they both existed and flourished in their geographic locations, their faiths, their social structures, and their technological advancements, all of which aided them in developing and promoting themselves to one degree or another.

Read the excerpt from The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone by James Cross Giblin.
azamat

Answer: The right answer is "moving from the details of the individual hieroglyphics to the big picture of hieroglyphics being both representations of sounds and symbols."

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, in this excerpt from James Cross Giblin's entertaining account of the discovery of the Rosetta Stone and its translation by French historian Jean François Champollion (1790-1832), the narrator is pointing out that reflecting upon the hieroglyphs further gave Champollion a chance to understand that, far from simply representing the sounds that identified the names of the pharaohs, or, as some scholars thought, having solely a symbolic meaning, hieroglyphs were both sounds and symbols. He, therefore, advanced the knowledge on the spoken language of ancient Egypt.
