  • Maine dead zones: such as areas around these bays and seas have lots of acidic contents and dissolved salts.
  • Algae bloom due to runoff and pollution: Runoff due to the overflowing of rivers and sediments brought by them create large and heavy algae growth.
  • Estuary formation. Formations of estuary systems like at the mount of river and deltas formations.

Difference  

  • Located in Maryland, Virginia, and the Gulf of Mexico.
  • The size of the Gulf of the Mexico dead zone is 22,730 sq kilometers and that of the Chesapeake bay is 320 kilometers.
  • Economic impacts: They vary with ecological services etc. The greater impact has been seen in the gulf areas as 10 billion $ have already been wasted on cleaning the zone.
