The most significant and positive effect of the Colombian exchange was the introduction of New World crops, such as potatoes and corn, to the Old World.

The Colombian Exchange greatly affected almost every society on earth, bringing destructive diseases that depopulated many cultures, and also circulating a wide variety of new crops and livestock that, in the long term, increased rather than diminished the world human population.

The Colombian Exchange impacted the social and cultural makeup of both sides of the Atlantic. Advancements in agricultural production, evolution of warfare, increased mortality rates and education are a few examples of the effect of the Colombian Exchange on both Europeans and Native Americans.
