Answer:

Latoya is responsible for her company’s human resource information system. She wants to expand the system’s usefulness and is preparing a recommendation to add data-mining applications. What does data mining involve?

a) analyzing large amounts of data, such as employee pay and performance

Explanation:

An information system is a combination of components that work collectively in the storage, transfer and processing of data. Information systems have various features including data mining which is a major component. Data mining can be defined as the process which data input is converted into useful information or output. In a company situation, there is usually large blocks of data. Going through these data blocks manually can be very tedious and time-consuming , thus costly. In most organizations however, they utilize data mining to break data down into simpler information that can be understood in a short time.

Data mining works by going through large data blocks and extracting relevant trends and patterns in them. Data mining has a number of uses, namely; detection of fraud, risk management of credit, and filtering opinion of users. The steps involved include: collection of data, then the data is loaded and stored in organizational servers, then analysts organize the data, then the data is processed using a software and finally the end result is presented in an easy to understand format.

In our case, Latoya is the company's human resource information system manager, thus her data-mining will probably involve analyzing large amounts of data, such as employee pay and performance.

You can either take a bus or drive your car to work. A bus pass costs $5 per week, whereas driving your carto work costs $60 wee
sukhopar [10]

Answer:

Explanation:

At a wage of $10/hour

Cost of a bus pass - $5

Two way trip =$10

Weekly bus trip = 10*5 -$50 (to & fro)

Extra time spent with bus 5hr (to & fro)

(leisure time are charged at wage rate )

Extra wage forgone with bus = 10*5= $50

the cost of earning extra if i drive =$60

Cost outweighs benefit

I will prefer to go by bus.

But if wages increase to $20

Leisure time valued at $20, Extra wage forgone = 20*5 = 100

Cost of earning extra if i drive by car = $60

If i drive the car . i will save extra time that worth a benefit of $40/week

If the wage increase to$20 , i will prefer to drive my car.

Phillips equipment has 75,000 bonds outstanding that are selling at par. bonds with similar characteristics are yielding 7.5 per
Basile [38]

Bonds = 75,000*1000 = 75 Million

Preferred stock = 750,000*64 = 48 Million

Common stock = 2.5 Million *44 =110 Million

Total capital = 75+48+110 = 233 Million

Weight of debt (Wd) = 75/233 = 0.3219

Weight of preferred stock (Wp)= 78/233 = 0.206

Weight of equity (We) 1-0.3219-0.206 = 0.4721

Cost of debt after tax (Rd)= 7.5%*(1-0.34) = 4.95%

Cost of preferred stock (Rp)=6/64 = 9.375%

Cost of equity(Re) = rf + beta*(rm-rf) = 2.3+1.21*(11.2-2.3) = 13.069%

WACC = Wd *Rd + Wp*Rp + We*Re

WACC = 0.3219*4.95 + 0.206*9.375 + 0.4721*13.069% = 9.69%
