Area in Math is what is inside of an outline/shape. For example, if you are given an outline of a rectangle, you can calculate the area by multiplying one short side with one long side. The total number gives you the amount of space inside the rectangle.

Area is the measurement of the exterior surface of an object:

Area of a rectangle: Length times Width Area Rectangle LxW
Area of a circle = Square of the Radius time 3.14. Area of a Circle = 3.14xR²
