What ethic group did the immigration laws of the 1800's and early 900's discriminate against ?
Ghella [55]

During the 1800s and early 1900s various ethnic groups were restricted from immigrating. Mainly asian (and specifically chinese) people were discriminated against. The Exclusion Act of 1882 is considered by many historians to be the first explicit exclusionary immigration restriction made to one particular nationality in its entirety. Immigration of chinese laborers was prohibited right then. This was largely the result of racial prejudice from the American people and their authorities.

andriy [413]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no words, phrases, or references attached, we can do research and answer the following.

"Four score and seven years ago our father brought forth on this continent, a new nation..." was the beginning of a speech that referred to the American Revolution (1776), which was the Independence war when the Continental Army led by General George Washington defeated the British troops.

"...conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to proposition that all men are created equal." This upheld the idea (expressed in the Declaration of Independence) of liberty and equality for ALL. The Declaration of Independence was promulgated on July 4, 1776.

"Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure." This refers to the idea that the American Civil War was a test of democracy.

"We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live." This refers to the purpose of the ceremony that was held on November 18, 1863. It was known as the Gettysburg address.

"...that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion..." This refers to Lincoln's idea that the dead inspire the living.

"...and that government of the people, by the people, for the people..." This reaffirmed the idea of government by consent of the people, as it was expressed in the Constitution of the United States.

What did japan hope to accomplish with the 21 demands
AleksandrR [38]

These notorious demands were issued at a time of shifting balance of power in East Asia. With the Qing dynasty’s humiliating defeat in the first Sino-Japanese War (1894-95), regional dominance for the first time had moved from China to Japan. Japan’s ambitions in China were further emboldened by its decisive victory in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05), which affirmed the Japanese presence in south Manchuria and Korea. The 1911 Revolution brought an end to the Qing dynasty and ushered in the Republican era in China, but China remained a pushover in the face of pressure from Western Powers. Furthermore, Yuan’s ruling status itself was shaky due to threats from competing local warlords. World War I granted Japan a perfect opportunity to push the envelope even more with China. As the war was underway in Europe, the Japanese hoped that other major powers would show little interest in countering Japanese expansion in China. For these reasons, Japanese Foreign Minister Kato was convinced that the filing of an ultimatum buttressed by the war threat would cause China to accept all the demands. so basically to control most of asia
