<em>When Pancho Villa attacked Columbus, New Mexico, the following things happened: followers of Pancho Villa, better known as “Villistas,” set fire to the town, 19 Americans and 90 Mexicans lost their lives, and  President Wilson sent General Pershing and his troops into Mexico to pursue Villa. </em>

Mexican General Francisco "Pancho" Villa crossed the US-Mexican border and attacked Columbus, New Mexico on March 19, 1916. President Wilson immediately ordered the US Army to pursue Villa and his men in a punitive expedition in the Mexican territory. General John J. Pershing. But the expedition failed. The United States Army never reached Pancho Villa.
