Spanish-American War for Cuba's Independence. By the end of the 1800's, Spain had lost all of its New World colonies except Cuba and Puerto Rico. Many Cubans did not wish to be under Spanish rule, so they <u><em>fled to Florida and other parts of the United States</em></u>. This war was known as the Spanish-American War.

The New Jersey Plan was one option as to how the United States would be governed. The Plan called for each state to have one vote in Congress instead of the number of votes being based on population. It was introduced to the Constitutional Convention by William Paterson, a New Jersey delegate, on June 15, 1787.
