NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was formed 70 years ago by 12 countries as a shield against Soviet political expansion to the west. Although they fought on the same sides during the WW2, soon after the war finished USA and Western Europe countries, on one side, and USSR, on the other, engaged in new conflict, political in its nature. Communism through USSR started spreading from the East to the Middle Europe (Hungary, Czechoslovakia) and shook the foundations of Western democracy and capitalism. Counterreaction of the Western countries was forming the NATO in 1949.
