Answer:

People enjoyed reading since school was mandatory. People made newspapers for people who liked gossip and scandals.  Others made dime novels for people who were poor.  Realist writers also made articles about the harsh life. Then people made magazines for woman's interest

In the 1800's Americans started reading more newspapers, books, novels and magazines. The newspapers was a massive source of news for Americans and for some their only source. Books and Novels helped people pass time, like authors Edgar Allen Poe became famous to the people like actors are to us today. Magazines helped express opinions for people mostly help influence people to a political side, one being during the civil war.
