The two alliances were The Triple alliance and The Triple Entente. The Triple Alliance was formed between the countries Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy. The Triple Entente was formed between the countries France, Great Britain and Russia. Germany was a country that joined the Triple Alliance in the later parts. These alliances were formed to protect each other if attacked by the other alliance.  </span>
