Civil rights movement in 1945-1963 sterned from the fact that African Americans where targets of brutal attacks by white counterparts and also there complete negligence of the African Americans from state affairs.

People in north and south treated african Americans with contempt.

A grassroots civil rights movement coupled with gradual but progressive actions by Presidents, the federal courts, and Congress eventually provided more complete political rights for African Americans and began to redress longstanding economic and social inequities.

While African-American Members of Congress from this era played prominent roles in advocating for reform, it was largely the efforts of everyday Americans who protested segregation that prodded a reluctant Congress to pass landmark civil rights legislation in the 1960s.
