  The Gothic architecture flourished in Europe originate in France on the 12th century and it was an evolution from the Romanesque architecture. It was widely used for built churches and cathedrals.

  Among its prominent features, there was the use of flying buttresses. They were composed of an arch that extends from the upper portion of a wall to a pier of great mass that allowed to counterbalance the weight of the roof. By using this technique the roofs were much higher with more space for windows.

My best guess would be Small, high windows. <span>Gothic architecture was first pioneered in Western Europe in the Middle Ages and began in France in the 12th century. The Gothic style grew out of Romanesque architecture and ended up lasting until the 16th century (1600's).</span>
