I was soon put down under the decks, and there I received such a salutation [greeting] in my nostrils as I had never experienced

in my life: so that, with the loathsomeness [horribleness] of the stench and crying together, I became so sick and low that I was not able to eat. I now wished for the last friend, death, to relieve me; but soon, to my grief, two of the white men offered me eatables [food]; and on my refusing to eat, one of them held me fast by the hands, and laid me across I think the windlass [a part of the ship], and tied my feet, while the other flogged [whipped] me severely.
Background information: Olaudah Equiano was enslaved in Africa but eventually gained his freedom in the United States. These passages are excerpts from his autobiography, published in 1789.

What is the “greeting” that Equiano receives when he first steps below the decks of the ship?

How did Odysseus regain his throne and family? Explain his strategy, and how he accomplished his goals
ratelena [41]

Answer:

Odysseus hid his identity from everyone except his son Telemachus so that he will see who is loyal to him and who is not. And then, he revealed his plans of how to kill the suitors to his son who follows just what his father told him.

Book XXII narrates the killing of these suitors and the eventual hanging of the maids who had been disloyal towards him and his family.

Explanation:

Book XVI of the text "The Odyssey" by Homer tells of the moment Odysseus reveals his true identity to his son Telemachus at the hut of the swineherd Eumeus. he also told him of his plot to attack the suitors that have overtaken his home and kingdom.

Odysseus told Telemachus to not say anything to anyone, even Laertes or Penelope about his arrival. Instead, he instructed him to go home as usual and entertain the suitors. Then he should "<em>collect all the armor that is in the house and hide it in the strong store room</em>" except "<em>a sword and a spear apiece...... and a couple of ox-hide shields</em>" which they will use when the time comes to attack the suitors. With the help of Minerva, he will inflict chaos upon the suitors and kill them all for the trouble they have inflicted upon the people as well as his own house. he also advised him not to tell any of the servants of the house so that they can "<em>see who is on our side and whose hand is against us</em>".

Later, when Eumeus and Odysseus (still disguised as a beggar) came to the  palace, he was insulted by the suitors. But he did nothing and waited for the right time to attack. After several days, he and Telemachus did exactly what they had planned and attacked the suitors while they were all in the hall( Book XXI). Killing everyone, Odysseus thus cleansed his house and kingdom from the evil suitors. In the process leading to this event, Odysseus also proved his identity to his wife Penelope during the trial of the bow (Book XXI). Thus, he retained all of his kingdom and accomplished his goal.

How was the War Powers Resolution intended to limit presidential authority? Congress needed to be notified of troop deployments.
Tpy6a [65]

Answer: Congress needed to be notified of troop deployments.

Context/detail:

Passed in 1973 over the veto of President Richard Nixon, the War Powers Resolution (its official name) blocks presidents from continuing the pursuance of a war without Congress's approval.  In practice, however, the War Powers Act has often been sidestepped by presidents.  The US Constitution leaves some tension in place between the legislative and executive branch when it comes to the country's involvement in war.  Article I of the Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war.  But Article II names the President the Commander-in-Chief, and presidents frequently have understood that role as containing the authority to deploy US forces without first getting congressional approval.  The War Powers Act has been an ongoing point of controversy as US forces have been sent into all sorts of conflict zones in the 21st century without formal declarations of war.
