With about seven thousand Puebloans baptized, the Franciscan Catholic priests further barred certain traditional drugs and dances among the Pueblo people. At the same time they forcefully took and destroyed Puebloans religious apparatus such as masks, prayer sticks, and effigies.

All these attempts of Franciscan Catholic priests would then lead to Pueblo Revolt that caused widespread violence in New Mexico.
