1) How did industrialization lead to imperialism for the United States?

There were two waves of industrialization in the United States. First one lasted from 1820s  to 1860s and the second one started in 1870s and went on 1900 onwards. The constuction of railways led it to connect eastern and western coast. America became a storng nation because of this phenomena. The Spanish American war of 1898 gave America territories in Central America and the Pacific Ocean. Later on American industrial and military superiority led it to participate and become a victor in both World Wars. It helped America to make its presence on Eurpoean continent as well as Asia and later on Africa and MiddleEast.

2) What were some of the effects of the Spanish-American war?

Spanish American war is known as a splendid little war. It lasted only two months but it impacts were huge.

1. America routed the Spanish Empire

2. America gained the territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, and Phillipines from Spain.

3. Cuba became independent although under US control

4. It made America an imperial state with foothold in America and Asia.

3) What were the motivations of the US to help complete the construction of the Panama Canal?

Panama Canal was important for the United States because:

It helped America to project naval power in both oceans i.e. Pacific and the Atlantic. Infact it helped America become a world power.

Then there was the commerical importance: The canal permitted shippers of commercial goods, ranging from automobiles to grain, to save time and money by transporting cargo more quickly between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

4) Explain the causes of WWI.

The murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a Serbian Nationalist was the reason that hositilities broke through out Europe starting WWI, however there were many other underlying causes. The first and foremost is the hidden pacts and alliances between different states of Europe.

How secret alliances led to WWI:

1. France was allied to Russia

2. Britain was guaranteeing the neutrality of Belgium

3. Germany was behind Austro-Hungarian Empire

4. Russain Empire was supporting Serbia

After the murder of Archduke the heir to AutroHungarian throne, the empire gave and ultimatum to Serbia. Backed by German gurantee Austro-Hungary attacked Serbia. Russia mobilize to defend Serbia, which led Germany to mobilize and then attack France via Belgium to avoid two front war. Britain jumped into the war to maintain Belgium's neutrality. And the rest is history.

Another cause would be the underestimation of the other states' ability to conduct warfare.

5) How did technological developments of weaponry impact WWI?

Technological development impacted WWI in a number of ways.

1. The invention of machine gun enabled one man to face hundreds which led to the death of hundred of thousands.

2. Technology helped states to conduct mechanize warfare with tanks and rapid mobilization which was not possible before.

3. The invention of submarine led Germany to attack Britain by using underwater boats.

4. The use of chemical and biological weapons killed hundred of thousand during WWI.

5. Airplanes were used for the first time in war.

6) Why did the US enter WWI?

The United States was intitally reluctant to become part of a European Conflict, and President Woodrow Wilson had promised to keep America out of foreign wars. However, Imperial Germany was waging unrestricted submarine warfare to prevent Britain the food and other resources. In that warfare Americans merchant ships were attacked as well. Moreover the Americans intercepeted Zimmerman Telegram by Germany to Mexico for inviting Mexico to war on German side and promise of Texas and other territories. This and the American civilian casualities because of German attacks led America to declare war on Germany.

Why is the Vietnam War an example of a proxy war?
Vladimir79 [104]

The correct answer is A) China and the Soviet Union supported North Vietnam, while the United States backed South Vietnam, even though the US wasn't directly at war with China or the United States.

That is why the Vietnam War is an example of a proxy war.

When an armed conflict was instigated by two countries that do not directly fight each other, we have a proxy war. Those two major countries use third countries to fight against each other. That was the case of the Vietnam War. During the Cold War years, the Soviet Union wanted to spread Communism in many nations, such as Vietnam. That is why the USSR supported North Vietnam. On the opposite side, the United States wanted to stop the spread of Communism, and that is why it supported South Vietnam.

Richard Nixon became president in 1969. Why was Nixon such a poor choice for the divided nation?
Eva8 [605]

This question is forcing liberal ideology down the throats of the students who are forced to answer it. If you are interested in an accurate view read the rest of my answer. I would not recommend you cloud your teacher's opinion with the facts.

After the 1972 election the major news outlets announced the death of the Democratic party. Political pundits seriously believed the Democrats had no chance of winning a presidential election in the decades to follow. Nixon won by a landslide, the Democratic Party was in complete disarray.

How is it possible to have one party, the Democratic Party, represent the KKK and Black Americans at the same time; Roman Catholics and Abortionists at the same time; The uberwealthy and welfare recipients at the same time; The Solid States Rights South and the Federal Government Expansionists at the same time. Demonize Richard Nixon, the ruthless Quaker.

It does not matter that Nixon for many was a RINO, Republican in name only. Every month that Kennedy and LBJ were president the troop commitment in Vietnam was maintained or expanded. Every month that Nixon was president the troop commitment in Vietnam decreased.

Nixon attempted to negotiate with the Communists to end the War during the first four years of his presidency. The Communists would not negotiate in any form of good faith until Nixon unleashed "Linebacker II" a massive two week bombing campaign that brought North Vietnam to the table in earnest. Nixon ended the war in Vietnam.

Nixon is depicted as the epitome of a white racist. He was the president who initiated Affirmative Action giving blacks preference in jobs so they could catch up after years of discrimination. Count the black employees in a US Post Office and you will see how his program changed the color of that work force.

Nixon established Earth Day and the Environmental Protection Agency. His vision lead to the end of the Deadly Smog that had engulfed major US Cities. He is the one who got the Lead out of Gasoline.

Nixon removed the US from the Gold Standard ending a major economic crisis. His economic programs staved off the incredible "Stagflation" the US suffered under the Carter Administration of the late 1970's.

If you are old enough to fight for the country you are old enough to vote. Nixon pushed through the the Constitutional Amendment that gave 18 year olds the right to vote.

Then again Nixon totally defiled the Oval Office, he was known to use profanity when he was angry. Just a total disgrace, no Democrat would ever treat the Oval Office with anything but reverence. It is a same that Nixon did not have the same high moral character exhibited by Clinton.

Nixon chose to record all of his conversations with the idea that after a period of time following his death, the tapes would be open to scholars who wished to study his presidency. He had the unmitigated gall to erase 18 minutes out of the many thousands of minutes of recorded conversation. New if he had deleted 30,000 E-mails it would have been non issue.

The liberal media managed to paint Nixon as the epitome of evil. The media successfully revived the Democratic Party. Anyone who can think can see the incredible bias in the media today.

Republicans are held to a far higher standard than Democrats. Maybe a better way to say this is Republicans are held to moral standards while democrats are not.

We weren't really involved in the war at all, it was like a normal day; but then pearl harbor came and as President Roosevelt quoted "a day that will live in infamy" this was the point where the U.S  joined the war against Japan
