The San Andreas Fault is known to be as the continental fault and extended around 1200 kilometers through California. San Andreas Fault is the reason behind the formation of the tectonic boundary which is present between Pacific plate and North American plate and the motion of San Andreas Fault is known as right-lateral strike-slip. This fault is further divided into three segments and each segment has a different characteristic.

The slip strike rate goes with the range which is 20 to 35 mm. It was Professor Andrew Lawson who identified this fault. If we talk about the central segment of San Andreas Fault, It runs in the north-western direction which initiates from the Parkfield and leads of Hollister. Shearing creates strike-slip faults that could possibly occur in the San Andreas Fault. Shearing is structural component of rock which refers to its texture and fault mechanics. Simply put, it is rock deformation that is caused by compressive stress. The study of shearing in rocks is related to structural geology.
