A letter to brother describing the state of her health condition of sick grandmother:

154, Ravish Street

Pune- 400015

Dear Brother

Hope you are in the best of health? Just  wanted to brief you about the detracting health condition of granny. Recently I happened to visit her at the hospital and from what I saw there is nothing encouraging to talk about.

A few of her major organs have stopped functioning and as per the doctors she is to be kept under observation for the later years of life. Miracles have happened and  there is a sense of optimism as well.

My suggestion to you is that If you can take a couple of days off from your work schedule, and catch up with her it would be great.

Your loving brother

In at least one hundred words, discuss how Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” can be viewed as a statement about the historical eve
Lerok [7]

Answer:

In "The Lottery," one of the main ideas presented is the fact that all humans are ultimately on their own, and are responsible only for themselves. The story shows how solidarity is inexistent in this town, as no one is willing to defend those who are chosen in the lottery. This is likely a critique of the period of the two World Wars. During this time period, individualism became more prominent, and solidarity became less common.

The story is also a critique of mob mentality and the value of tradition. Despite the fact that the lottery is an outdated, damaging tradition, people feel forced to carry it out due to social expectations. Social pressure had also been prominent in past years, particularly during the Holocaust, where many common people committed horrible acts of cruelty due to tradition and social expectations.
