In this exercise it is necessary to use the correct form of the verb ser o estar (to be) in Spanish.

Explanation:

The verb ser is used to talk about permanent situations such as profession, occupation, physical appearance, personality, name, nationality and origin. On the other hand the verb estar is used to talk about temporary situations such as location, emotions, feelings and states.  

1. Irene todavía no está lista para salir.  (It talks about a situation that is going to change. The verb estar for she is está)

Irene is not ready to go out yet

Ricardo es el chico más listo de la clase.  (permanent situation, physical appearance. The verb ser for he is es)

Ricardo is the tallest guy in his class.

3. Tomás no es un buen amigo porque es muy aburrido. (It is about personality, a permanent situation. The verb ser for he is es)

Tomás is not a good frien because he is so boring

Quiero ir al cine porque estoy muy aburrida. (It is about temporary situation, a state. The verb estar for I is estoy)

I want to go to the movies becasue I am very bored.

4. Mi mamá está en cama porque está mala del estómago.  (It is about temporary situation, a state. The verb estar for she is está)

My mom is on her bed because she is sick of her stomach

El restaurante chino que está cerca del laboratorio es muy malo.  (It is about a characteristic, a permanent situation. The verb ser for restaurant is es)

The Chinese restaurant that is close to the lab is pretty bad.

5. La mochila de Javier es verde.  (It is about a characteristic, a permanent situation. The verb ser for maleta is es)

Javier´s bag is green

No me gustan las bananas cuando están verdes.  It is about a temporary, situation. The verb estar for them is estar)

I do not like bananas when they are green.

6. Elena está más rubia por tomar el sol.  (It is about a temporary situation. The verb estar for she is está)

Elena is blonder because of sunbathing.

La hija de mi profesor es rubia. (It is about a characteristic, physical appearance. The verb ser for she is es )

My teacher´s daughter is blonde.

7. Gabriela está muy delgada porque está enferma.  (It is about a temporary situation. The verb estar for she is está)

Gabriela is very skinny because she is very sick.

Mi hermano es muy delgado.  (It is about a characteristic, a permanent situation. The verb ser for restaurant is es)

My brother is very skinny.
