It has three governmental branches which are known as the Legislative, Executive and Judicial. Powers of all these branches are vested in the constitution of the United States. These powers are further defined by the acts of Congress. The constitution assigns various powers to Congress and these powers are mentioned under Article 1, Section 8 of the US constitution.  

These powers include collection or Taxes, Coining money as well as providing punishment for counterfeiting. Powers that are granted to Congress under the constitution are establishing post offices and roads and creation of federal courts, declare war, raise as well as support armies. <u>Over the last many years, many issues have risen up over the powers granted to Congress under the federal government.</u>

Economic forces

The rise of nativist sentiment within the US during the later part of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century was definitely fueled by economic forces. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, America was industrializing at a rapid pace. This created a high demand for unskilled workers to work in factories. With this in mind, many immigrants came to America for these economic opportunities. However, nativists despised these immigrants as many were willing to work for lower wages in comparison to American born citizens. This idea that immigrants were taking jobs from immigrants fueled nativist sentiment and resulted in political action, as the US federal government created the Immigration Act of 1924.
