The correct answer is D. An ethical psychologist will be committed to taking ethical action. All psychologists are bound by a specific code of ethics and must adhere to these ethics at all times to ensure safety of their clients/participants and themselves, for example confidentiality and consent are two examples of ethical actions.

A and B are incorrect as decisions are subjective, while psychologists are committed to making ethical decisions, what can be seen as an ethical decision to someone might not be to another. C is incorrect as psychologists are 100% objective and do not judge the actions of others.

The answer is D. An ethical psychologist will be committed to taking ethical action.

EXPLANATION

Ethics are the rules that need to be followed when someone is conducting research in psychology. The purpose of applying ethics in research is to protect and guide the participants from harm. Participants' rights need to be protected throughout the research.

Researchers need to follow moral principles and rules about researches. Participants need to be safe from all the harm that can possibly happen. Ethics also includes the confidentiality of the participants. No identity and results will be shared by other people. It is a secretive document for the purpose of the research only.

The ethical rules for research are published by different organizations in different countries. For example, the moral guidelines in the United States were made by the American Psychological Association. Meanwhile, the ethics in England was made by the British Psychological Society.

Ethics’ main purposes are to protect the participants’ rights, the researchers, and also the reputation of psychology. There needs to be a guideline about morals in research because moral is such a subjective thing. There is no right or wrong answer since it is a matter of judgment. Therefore, there needs to be a guideline for morals that need to be applied in researches.
