1) Multiply top equation by 2 -> -10x-8y=30

2) Add both equations:

 -10x-8y=30

+ 6x+8y=-18

__________

  -4x=12

3) Divide both sides by -4 -> x=-3

4) Plug value of x into either equation:

6(-3)+8y=-18

-18+8y=-18

8y=0

y=0

So x=-3 and y=0

Hope this helped!

NO LINKS!!! This is NOT MULTIPLE CHOICE!!!
aleksley [76]

Answer:

Given equation:   y=(x+1)^2-2

The function is a <u>quadratic function</u> in <u>vertex form</u>:  y=a(x-h)^2+k

<u>Translations</u>

For a > 0

f(x+a) \implies f(x) \: \textsf{translated}\:a\:\textsf{units left}

f(x-a) \implies f(x) \: \textsf{translated}\:a\:\textsf{units right}

f(x)+a \implies f(x) \: \textsf{translated}\:a\:\textsf{units up}

f(x)-a \implies f(x) \: \textsf{translated}\:a\:\textsf{units down}

Parent function:  f(x)=x^2

<u>Translations</u>

Translated 1 unit left:  f(x+1)=(x+1)^2

Then translated 2 units down:  f(x)-2=(x+1)^2-2

Therefore, translate the parent function by <u>1 unit left</u> and <u>2 units down</u> to produce the given equation.

A plumber has a 2.5 metre long copper pipe
Anastaziya [24]

We have an object measured in <u>Meters</u>, and we want to cut sections of it off in <u>Centimeters</u>, a different unit of measurement.

Because we're subtracting sections of the pipe, we want to make the units the same, this will make our calculations easier.

1 Meter = 100 Centimeters, so, <u>2.5 Meters = 250 Centimeters</u>

We're cutting ( 60 Cm + 35 Cm + 90 Cm ) off, which totals <u>185 Cm</u>.

250 Cm Pipe - 185 Cm Cuts = 65 Cm Pipe Left
