Allies considered alternatives to invading Japan.  The U.S. had already lost several soldiers in both the Western and Eastern Front.  The Japanese also threaten to kill POWs if America invades Japan.  The Americans decided to use the atomic bomb and this led to Japan’s surrender and the war’s end.
