The diagram you describe is also known as a Venn diagram. In this diagram the middle part where the circles cross each other is where you list similarities between two groups.  In this example the X should respond to a common characteristic between Fusion and Fission. Both Fusion and Fission are nuclear reactions that release energy (option C) but they have different processes. Fusion refers to mixing two nuclei and Fission is the process to separate a single nucleus.
