Essentially the poem is about triumph over adversity. It is about strength and courage, and fortitude. It is about not accepting one's vulnerability in the face of domination. And basically it is about joining together with one voice and saying, we will overcome!

Mnenie [13.5K]
Beowulf is preparing to kill Grendel's mother and restore order by avenging Aeschere and putting an end to the blood feud. His heroic view of life is that it is better to die with the glory of avenging our friends, than to live and wait for the life to end naturally, in peace. That is a true warrior's destiny: "Each of us all must his end abidein the ways of the world; so win who mayglory ere death! When his days are told, that is the warrior’s worthiest doom."

1. What Contrasts and Contradictions do you notice in the behavior of Douglass’s mistress? How does Douglass explain the change
Pachacha [2.7K]

The contradictions that can be found in Douglass's mistress are related to her behavior towards slaves.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • Mrs. Auld was one of Douglass' mistresses.
  • She was a very kind and benevolent to slaves.
  • This behavior was very favorable and admired by Douglass.
  • However, she began to show contradictory behavior towards slaves.
  • She started to become an angry and violent person with the slaves, which completely contradicted her behavior in the past.

Douglass explains this shift as a normal part of the devastating nature of slavery. According to him, slavery caused the suffering of blacks, while corrupting the humanity of whites.

This question is about the book "My Bondage and My Freedom."
