African resistance was not at the technology or goods being brought in but rather restrictions on their culture in particular their religion. 

Europeans attempted to bring Christianity into the new colonies. With this often came the outlawing of African practices like rituals and praising natural spirits. They also disrupted the structure and roles of the African tribes which gave power to members of the tribe who had not earned that power. </span>
